4 Types of Cyber Attacks That You’re Most Likely to Face

Most Common Types of Cyber Attacks

A simple definition of cyberattacks is an intentional attempt to get unlawful access, steal or harm a person's information on computer networks.

Based on our research and experience, we’ve determined the four most common types of cyberattacks in 2021:

Cyber Attack #1: Brute-force Attack

An attack like this occurs when a cybercriminal uses hit and miss to guess a password efficiently. They'll try all possible password combinations until they're successful. These cybercriminals use a Brute force attack to get into a personal account or website. Gaining access to these accounts can allow them to terminate their victim's account.

To prevent hacking of your accounts, you should use passwords that are complex and set attempt limits.

Cyber Attack #2: Stuffing Credentials

When a cybercriminal uses stolen credentials to access an account, it's called credential stuffing; because things are automated, it makes the process much easier for them. These criminals have an extensive database that holds all the information used to hack accounts. They can now use the hacked account to complete fraudulent transactions.

To prevent hackers from accessing your account using stuffing credentials, you should set up multiple ways to log in to it, stop using your email as user IDs, and enable authorization through different means.

Cyber Attack #3: Phishing and Spear Phishing

Among the most prevalent cyber attack types is phishing. Sending emails from a trusted source to collect data is called phishing. Social planning and technical skills are needed to pull off such campaigns. These emails usually come with an attachment from a legitimate website that will ask you to download malware to your system; this will, in turn, send all your data to these criminals.

To guard against phishing, you should not open emails sent from sources you're not familiar with. You should also pay keen attention to the headers of these emails; it will help you ascertain if the message is genuine or not.

Cyber Attack #4: Malware attacks

Malware is malicious software downloaded on your computer without your acknowledgement. The purpose of malware is to encrypt, steal, and delete important information from your system. It can replicate and spread your data across the web. The most significant class of malware attacks are bad bots, adware, trojans, and ransomware.

In 2021 these types of cyber threats are running rampant. They're teaching the need to keep abreast of the different types of cyber threats present which cause severe damage.
